Altamont Anglers fly fishing guides have been guiding and teaching anglers since 1986. Our knowledge of the waters around our home of Asheville, NC lets us customize fly fishing trips to your special needs & desires. Asheville fly fishing offers the daytime experience of pristine trout streams set in beautiful Smoky Mountain settings and the evening experience of a vibrant downtown that offers fine dining, entertainment and arts.
You will find our rates for full-day or half-day float trips to be fair and competitive, with quality equipment and expert instruction. Orvis fly fishing gear is standard for all our trips, to match the quality of service provided by our guides. Our guides are CPR certified, and we are fully insured.
When we want the rewards of fishing to more challenging fish, we travel toward Tennessee and the tri-cities area of Johnson City, Elizabethton and Kingsport where we fish the TVA controlled tail-water streams of the South Holston River or the Watauga River. The releases of water below TVA dams on these rivers provides for constant year-round stream temperatures, predictable hatches for us to match, and excellent opportunities for float-fishing that rival the legendary fly fishing rivers of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and the Rocky Mountains.
Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C.
George Vanderbilt’s 250-room castle is America’s Largest Home and a top attraction in Asheville. Plan a visit to Biltmore House, explore 8,000 acres of grounds, or book a behind-the-scenes tour.
Elegance and grandeur abound at Biltmore, America’s largest home. This French Renaissance castle in the heart of Asheville and the Blue Ridge Mountains is an architectural jewel. The home features 250 rooms, including 35 bedrooms, 43 bathrooms and 65 fireplaces.
In addition to the house, the 8,000-acre estate is home to forested trails and beautiful gardens, which include one of the country’s most complete collections of azaleas. Biltmore is also where you’ll find the nation’s most-visited winery. As you explore the estate, enjoy shopping, dining and luxury accommodations.
Biltmore is as magnificent today as it was when it was built more than a century ago. George W. Vanderbilt created the estate in the 1890’s as a grand retreat in the North Carolina mountains. The estate officially opened to his friends and family on Christmas Eve 1895. Mr. Vanderbilt brought in Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, to design the gardens and trails. Biltmore was the last great project for Olmsted, whose work also includes New York’s Central Park and the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. The Estate is still privately owned and operated by George Vanderbilt’s descendants
When the sun sets on Biltmore Village and the local shop owners return to their homes, the Corner Kitchen keeps cooking. Enjoy the warmth of our illuminated interior with comfortable cuisine. Order a unique cocktail and gaze upon the mountain sky from the comfort of our pristine patio. Find out what locals have known for nearly 16 years — dinner doesn’t only happen downtown in Asheville.
The Blackbird’s goal is to delight guests with cooking grounded in the traditions and ingredients of the Carolinas creating an affordable and vibrant menu – Modern Southern with a “nod” to tradition.

Anchor Fly currently consists of two passionate fly fishing anglers with desires to
- Spend as much time as they can fly fishing
- Share what they learn with others
Our team believes that fly fishing can literally make us better people. In a nutshell—by spending more time in nature and connecting with our surroundings we develop peace and patience in daily life. This is a very cool thing AND is very worthy of some gratitude.
We wish to share our deep respect for the environments we fish in, and the fish that we catch. If we can help develop an increase in respect for even one angler that would mean a great deal.
Because of this, sharing information and research on the culture, philosophy and environmental impact is very important to publish on Anchor Fly.
