An anchor fly is a beaded nymph that is weighted to get to the feeding zone quickly. Anchor flies are commonly used in Euro Nymphing and similar tight-line angling methods.
Anchor Fly currently consists of two passionate fly fishing anglers with desires to
- Spend as much time as they can fly fishing
- Share what they learn with others
Our team believes that fly fishing can literally make us better people. In a nutshell—by spending more time in nature and connecting with our surroundings we develop peace and patience in daily life. This is a very cool thing AND is very worthy of some gratitude.
We wish to share our deep respect for the environments we fish in, and the fish that we catch. If we can help develop an increase in respect for even one angler that would mean a great deal.
Because of this, sharing information and research on the culture, philosophy and environmental impact is very important to publish on Anchor Fly.

An innovative, daily changing global menu & cocktails served in a modest cinder-block building.
The Admiral embarked not with a set course, but steered more in a general direction. In 2007, we aspired to create an unexpected restaurant that thrived on its talent and creativity.
With the procurement of a modest cinderblock building on the wage earning side of town we succeeded in our goal – to serve an inventive cuisine without having to hold on to convention, all in an atmosphere that lacks the restraints of standard technique.
We hope you find our décor timeless, our service gentle, and our cuisine inventive and delicious.

Guiding is our passion. Sure we love catching fish on our days off, but sharing the experience is far more rewarding. We are guides and instructors who enjoy helping both beginners and advanced anglers alike. Being a professional guide requires a diverse set of skills, not just being able to put people on fish. All AFFC guides are endorsed by multiple gear companies which allows us to provide you with the best gear available. We are dedicated to giving you the best service you have ever experienced, and to always enjoy as much river experience as possible while putting fish in the net. We are problem solvers who enjoy the connections and process just as much as the pull. We push each other to be innovative, aware of the fine details and to always anticipate the next move gracefully and with respect. Our first time out with you, we take note of the details that make a difference to you. From the moment we meet you onward, we go the extra miles so you are right where you want to be, fishing better and laughing louder.

At Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack, we pay homage to “Nashville style” hot chicken and southern soul food. We prepare our unique fried chicken to order and it all starts as “Plain.” From there we can add the spice from mild to extra hot (lots of folk just love it without the spice).
We take pride in being one of Asheville’s locally owned, independent restaurants. We source quality and local ingredients for the classic American recipes that we make from scratch daily. Our birds are naturally raised for superior quality and flavor.
Novelist Thomas Wolfe spent a decade of his childhood growing up in his mother’s Asheville boardinghouse. Called “Old Kentucky Home” the house was patronized by summer tourists and health seekers during the early years of the 20th century. These boarders would later inspire many of the colorful characters in Wolfe’s 1929 novel, Look Homeward, Angel. The house itself was recast as “Dixieland” and would provide much of the setting for the story. Today, tours of the Old Kentucky Home provide a glimpse into Asheville’s early rise to prominence as a resort for health and recreation as well as the stories associated with Thomas Wolfe’s colorful and turbulent childhood here. An adjacent visitor’s center and museum contains a self guided exhibit hall and 22 minute film presentation on Wolfe’s life and writings.
Thomas Wolfe famously wrote “You can’t go home again,” but don’t let that stop you from exploring the Asheville native’s boyhood home.
A contemporary of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway, Wolfe secured his place in the American literary canon with the critically acclaimed publication of his unabashedly auto-biographical novel, Look Homeward, Angel, in 1929. Local admiration didn’t come as easily: His unflattering portrayals of family and some 200 thinly disguised townspeople of Asheville (aka “Altamont”) prompted hometown scorn. Following eight years of self-imposed exile, Wolfe re-turned a hero in 1937, having boosted tourism during the Great Depression.
Asheville still embodies the “boomtown” spirit that so captivated Wolfe. “Some things will never change,” wrote Wolfe, and a walk through his onetime stomping grounds continues to reveal a colorful cast of characters.
Let your sense of adventure play in our backyard! Stay in luxury while enjoying the convenience of walking to everything downtown Asheville has to offer. There are over 70 restaurants, area attractions such as the Thomas Wolfe Memorial and the Asheville Art Museum, shopping for handmade treasures or for upscale clothing, performing art theaters and galleries, plus a wide variety of nightlife. There are mountain and city views from every guest room and suite. The 60′ indoor pool with whirlpool and fitness center is sure to please. You may want to stay in and enjoy a movie and dine at the restaurant or lounge. Located in downtown Asheville. Marriott points awarded.

From its earliest days as a high end department store, our location has been the center of Asheville’s social and cultural scene. Unlike other Downtown Asheville hotels, the boutique Haywood Park Hotel puts you right in the heart of the Battery Hill Neighborhood. Enjoy fabulous food, art, theater, live music, and nightlife all within footsteps. And when you’re finished with the dining, dancing, shopping, and seeing you’ll be pampered in rooms that are larger and more luxurious than any other in the area. We can’t wait to immerse you in an experience that is unmatched in Asheville. We look forward to being your Asheville, NC hotel for life!
