Short Street Cakes is a family-owned Cake Shop located in West Asheville, North Carolina.
Our cakes are 100% natural and made from scratch, and represent the very best in the classic tradition of Southern Cakes.

While we have transitioned locations, our passion to deliver delicious coffee, impeccable cakes, pastries and traditional Hungarian desserts has never wavered. Having immigrated to America from Hungary, owner, founder and creator of all of our desserts, Melinda Vetro, works passionately and diligently to continue providing a great experience to every customer that walks through our doors.

We are an independent, family owned company founded in 1999. We strive to produce high quality, fresh breads and pastries for our retail and wholesale customers. We source products from local businesses when possible and we believe in giving back to our community through donations and interaction.

An Asheville staple for more than 10 years, City Bakery serves some of the best sandwiches, salads, and soups in town. Artisan Breads, scratch-made pastries, cakes and desserts as well as great breakfast selections are available 7 days a week.

Annie’s Bakery is a wholesale bread bakery that crafts high quality artisan bread the old-world way. Our doughs are created with a long fermentation. This process takes 48-72 hours and breaks down the gluten proteins making Annie’s bread easier to digest. Our breads are free from preservatives and additives.
In addition, we use an array of nutritious ingredients such as stone-ground whole wheat and locally milled rye flours, ancient grains, blackstrap molasses, seeds (millet, flax, sesame, and sunflower), and rolled oats.
The end result is great tasting bread that is good for you!

Having opened in 2014, Vortex Doughnuts and Coffee is proud to call Asheville home. Vortex is deeply committed to providing Asheville with the highest quality, hand made doughnuts on a daily basis. Every ingredient is thoughtfully chosen to provide the best tasting experience while supporting local and regional farmers, suppliers, breweries and more. Brewing 1000 faces coffee from Athens Georgia, Vortex offers a classic menu of espresso drinks alongside a signature drink menu as well as great drip and pour over style coffees.

I’m a classically trained pastry chef, and I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for (cough cough) a looong time. That’s where I learned to be so witty. 😉 In 2014 I started making cute little custom cakes for friends and family. Just for fun, because I missed making art, because friends don’t let friends eat a dry cake. Then people started requesting them, paying for them, coming up with crazy ideas. I spent the next year or so making four or five celebration cakes a week, holding down a full-time job, and running my entire business from a Facebook page.

Nestled in the mountains of Western North Carolina, Well-Bred is an award winning bakery and café enjoyed daily by locals and tourists alike. Founded in 2002, Well-Bred offers two locations: The original Weaverville store located 10 minutes north of Asheville, and South Asheville’s Biltmore Village shopping location, just minutes from the historic Biltmore Estate.
